Bus Accident in Port Orchard: Getting Damages from the Government
3/14/2008
On Thursday afternoon a Clallam Transit System bus in Port Orchard started a chain reaction accident. The bus struck a small blue pickup in heavy traffic. The impact occurred at less than 20 mph. The blue pickup was carrying a ladder that cracked the bus’s windshield. The pickup was then pushed into another car that then struck a utility truck that then hit another truck.
The driver the blue pickup sustained a minor head injury. One of the passengers on the bus was treated for neck and back pain.
In this case the injured person would need to properly file and serve a “tort claim form” with Clallam Transit or the appropriate governmental agency which handles accident-related claims. These requirements can be tricky and, if not done right, can bar claims. Claim form issues are the first to be looked at when a lawsuit is filed, because the lawsuit is barred if the claim requirements were not met. Claims against the government can be tricky. Getting a lawyer to help is the best way to avoid getting tripped up.
